Fields CQAM Undergraduate Student Wins Elevator Pitch Competition

Updated: Oct 18, 2019

Toronto, ON - Quinten Tupker, a member of the 2018 cohort of the Fields Undergraduate Summer Research Program (FUSRP), has won the award for best pitch at the Elevator Pitch Workshop held by the University of Toronto's Department of Mathematics on Tuesday July 10th.

The value of a good elevator pitch lies in its ability to effectively communicate the most important aspects of an individuals' interests or research in a short amount of time. From landing internships to presenting a poster at a conference, a good elevator pitch is critical for students to make a positive opening statement. Working on this principle, the Elevator Pitch Workshop taught students how to prepare and practice a winning pitch for use in their professional and academic careers, with feedback and guidance provided by a team of managers from Scotiabank.

Beating out other students from FUSRP, as well as summer students in the Math Department, Quinten focused his pitch on landing a coveted internship at the World Health Organization's Water, Sanitation, and Health Unit. Watch him rehash his winning pitch below:
